The Department of Sociology at Trinity College Dublin is a leading centre for research and teaching, dedicated to understanding social change and addressing contemporary challenges. It is recognised as a leading research centre for the study of the role of families in educational inequality, the role of social environment in health inequalities, migration and ethnicity and social networks and computational sociology.

Innovative Teaching
The Department has won multiple staff and postgraduate teaching awards for outstanding teaching. It offers modules across four different undergraduate programmes and two taught masters programmes. It adopts a research-led teaching approach and utilises a range of innovative methodologies to develop independent learning and the transferable skills required for today’s knowledge-based societies.

The Department has a high rate of undergraduate student participation in international mobility programmes. Each year, the Dept. welcomes a growing number of visiting students from around the world who contribute to a vibrant multicultural learning environment. Our Visiting Professor and Scholar Programme has attracted international researchers from around the globe. The Department also has a long-standing collaboration with one of Europe’s premier research institutes, the Economic and Social Research Institute.
